900 NG (1994–1998)

The simplest upgrade while keeping the classic look.
With the BT Changer v9 version, the factory head unit of the NG 900 can also be used in Bluetooth mode. You can listen to music or podcasts from your device or online, and voice navigation from your phone can assist during driving.

How does it work?

The NG 900’s factory head unit is a Clarion PU-9715A, PU-9716A CC and PU-9717A model. The BT Changer communicates with the head unit via Clarion’s special C-Bus system and identifies itself as a CD changer. This way, the BT Changer functions just like a CD changer.
Unfortunately, this system is much more primitive than the ones Saab used later, so displaying text or metadata is not possible, and hands-free calling is not supported.

Usage

By pressing the CD button – as if selecting the CD changer – you switch to Bluetooth mode.
If your mobile device is already paired, the system is ready to use immediately.

Use the REW Track and FF Track buttons to skip between tracks with a single press. Long-pressing these buttons activates fast-forward or rewind.

How to install it?

Installation is extremely simple and requires no technical expertise.
Just unplug the factory CD changer cable (if present) from the round 13-pin DIN connector on the back of the head unit, and plug in the BT Changer kit instead. Naturally, the CD changer and the BT Changer cannot operate at the same time.

The most involved step is removing the head unit, which can be done using a special removal tool or four thin screwdrivers. Many tutorial videos on this process are available online.
